    SUPER SPECIAL DELIVERY – DEVBLOG

Note: Super Special Delivery has been cancelled. This blog will remain up for those who are interested, but the game is no longer in development as of 12/27/22

    Introduction To Super Special Delivery

The big project I’ve been working on for a while now is a Beat Em Up game called Super Special Delivery. The game is a retro style 2D Beat Em Up game, which is a genre that has been getting quite a few entries from many different developers and publishers, so it’s a great time to be a fan of the genre!

What makes Super Special Delivery unique, is that the core game loop features a delivery system, where the player will delivery food to various customers while fighting their way through the mean streets. This is an idea I got from playing a round or two or the classic arcade title Paperboy, and I thought “What if Paperboy had combat?” At that point, I got to work.

The game follows a young girl named Emiko, who is the delivery girl at her grandparents Ramen Shop, the Kuro Neko. The city they inhabit happens to have quite a few zealous restaurant owners who would like nothing more than to see the Kuro Neko out of business. In order to save her grandparents shop, Emiko takes to the streets to fight the competition and make sure that no one messes with the Kuro Neko!

The games characters are all designed by my wife, Zana Ito Guyton. Her designs are then converted into Pixel Art by a great artist Steve Neubauer (@AlwaysSteve). The project has been slow moving (as we all have day jobs, unfortunately!) for awhile now, but development has been picking back up lately as I have more time to dedicate to building the game. The purpose of this blog is to give anyone interested updates on how the games development is going, as well as access to the kanban of features being built for the game.
